You're not 'untalented.' It is more than likely that you haven't been taught how to collaborate with a worship band. That’s the issue. An ongoing issue for too long. It’s time to fix that. Once & for all.
I grew up with classical music training on the violin but had no knowledge of chords or playing by ear. I always relied on sheet music to play something with my instrument.
While my love for the violin, classical music, and worship music remained, there was a problem. I never knew exactly how or what to play when I played violin with a worship band.
I always felt lost, confused, and frustrated because I had no idea what I was doing.
Even if we go to our private lesson teachers (and with all due respect to our teachers), more often than not, we’re not given the answers we are looking for when it comes to playing with a worship band as a string player. What happens to be the case is that violin instructors would only know how to teach the instrument or specialize teaching in classical violin music.. which is great and necessary for many reasons,
BUT…. Is it all that we need especially when we string players are asked to collaborate with worship bands?
So, the question isn’t necessarily: “Did we waste our money?”
Our teachers did or are currently doing their jobs in teaching how to play our instrument, right? And that’s the thing: they had ONE JOB. And they did what they could, which is what we needed to build our playing technique.
The better question to ask is: Are we learning from the right mentors FOR collaborating with a worship band?
“But there aren’t any teachers that could teach worship style playing..”
I agree. I also spent years and even decades trying to seek answers of how to play with a worship band but NO solution was found. No worship band member or musician was able to help me right there and then truly. For over a decade, I still could not get clear answers on how to do this thing!!
Until 15 years later...
None of us have time to waste. None of us have money to waste either trying to seek after another possible teacher, a place, or event for months or years on end but only to come back to the beginning where we still don’t have answers.
That is why Worship & Strings exists: to help musicians by equipping and empowering them to confidently play with a worship band!
Our time is valuable as His kingdom builders. Who has time to waste trying to use answers that DO NOT work? From now on, let’s use our time and resources wisely. Begin your journey towards receiving the answers you’ve been looking for when playing on a worship team as a string player.
This can only be learned by musicians who have been there in your state of frustration AND NOW, are willing to help you for His glory.
This course would be best for Mature Beginners all the way to Professional violinists. *The Mature Beginner would have good bow control & know basic music note reading (ex.- quarter notes, note names on staff)
This is the Only online course that teaches this: 'Playing Violin on a Worship Team' which means it is rarely taught. I have searched everywhere: YouTube, Google, Blogs, you name it. Even if there may be ‘some’ tips on the internet, ask yourself: Truly, how effective were the solutions people gave? There is a lack of demonstration of how to play on a worship team as a string player. One significant part of the mission of Worship & Strings is solving this issue through proven answers and demonstration no matter where you are located.
The short answer is Yes. Here's why. There may be worship conferences that teach worship violin playing in a special class or seminar. BUT.. "What if this conference is located far away? I would have to buy the worship conference pass, the lodging, the food, the pass for seminars..and the total cost of that being $1000-$5000 and could even more than that ??? That is VERY expensive. Don’t get us wrong. We would all love an opportunity to learn and grow by attending worship conferences. However, "What if I have a busy schedule? What if it’s out of my budget?" Worship & Strings offers a Self-Paced course where you can learn anytime, anywhere AND for a much affordable price. Save your money. Save your energy. Learn at your own pace. Receive the answers you’re looking for instantly AND have life-long access to the course.
If you are starting to learn violin (Beginner level), then yes. You should be learning violin in private lessons. For intermediate level players who have been learning violin consistently through private lessons in less than 10-15 years or so, it is still suggested that you are also taking private violin lessons to solidify violin technique.
Classical Violin Technique is helpful. What is most important however is having solidified basic playing technique such as playing with the bow correctly, good intonation, posture, etc.
This course will NOT teach basic violin playing technique. This course is designed to teach how to play with a worship band as a string player. If you are beginning to learn to play the violin or your specific instrument, PLEASE find a trusted violin teacher/teacher who teaches your specific instrument to help and guide you to playing with the right technique. DO NOT use this course to replace one-on-one instruction. After the student learns and applies solid technique, this course can then be beneficial for the violinist desiring to learn how to play violin with a worship band.
Worship & Strings welcomes all musicians who accompany a worship band (string musician or not) to take our course. We have helped flute players, saxophonists, and other instrumentalists outside of the standard string family (Violin, Viola, Cello). The results would be the same and worship style playing would become second nature.
